What Tyler Guyton brings to Dallas in 2024 NFL Draft

An 6-foot-8, 328-pound tackle, Guyton offers lots of upside based on his brief playing experience on the offensive line. His length, quick feet and elite athleticism make him an ideal pass protector in the NFL. Scouts knock him a bit for his run-blocking considering his height and relative lack of bulk, but his ability to pass-block at either tackle spot makes up for any deficiencies in the run game.

Tyler Guyton's highlights, strengths, weaknesses at Oklahoma

After spending two seasons at TCU as a redshirt defensive lineman and a tight end, Guyton found a home on OU's offensive line. He appeared in 10 games and made five starts at tackle for OU in 2022 before breaking out in 2023, when he earned an All-Big 12 honorable mention honor in nine starts at right tackle, where he didn’t allow a sack.

How good was Tyler Guyton at Manor?

A member of Manor's 2020 class, Guyton preferred basketball and baseball to football while growing up in the town just east of Austin. His father, Alvin Guyton, convinced Tyler to join the football team as a senior, and former Manor coach Jimmie Mitchell immediately slotted him in as a disruptive interior defensive lineman. Guyton saw lots of action for a Mustangs team that reached the Class 5A Division I regional finals, but he didn't even earn an all-district honorable mention nod on an All-District 11-5A DI squad that included utility player of the year Jahdae Barron, now a star defensive back for Texas.

Did any other Austin-area players get drafted in the first round?

No, but that's not a rarity. Austin doesn't produce the same amount of elite NFL prospects like the Dallas or Houston metro areas. Guyton is just the third player in the past 10 years from the Austin area to get selected in the first round of the NFL draft, joining a pair of Lake Travis graduates. Quarterback Baker Mayfield went with the No. 1 overall pick to Cleveland in 2018, and receiver Garrett Wilson went No. 10 to the New York Jets in 2022.
