Georgetown, Elgin advance in state softball playoffs; other Austin-area series continue

GEORGETOWN — Georgetown exploded for 12 runs in the first inning and added seven more in the second to claim a 19-0 win over Eastside Early College in a three-inning, run rule-shortened bi-district victory that saw Cambree Creager pitch her 500th career strikeout and Maddie Hartley stroke her record-breaking 35th career home run.

With the win, Georgetown advanced to the area round of the state playoffs; the Eagles have reached the regional finals three straight seasons, with two trips to the UIL state tournament.

Around the Austin area

Bowie crushes Stony Point 13-2: Bowie took Game 1 of a best-of-three bi-district series behind Alyssa Lusk, who had four hits and scored three runs, and pitcher Kate Bookidis, who went the distance and struck out six. Bowie catcher Anya German drove in five runs.

Lake Travis edges Vista Ridge 5-3: Julie Rodriguez scattered six hits and struck out seven and Maddie Pinzon stroked a three-run home run for the Cavaliers in Game 1 of their series.

Dripping Springs blanks Round Rock 6-0: Haiden Anderson pitched a four-hitter and struck out eight Dragons in the first game of their best-of-three series.

Cedar Ridge tops Johnson 7-2: Nicole McMann struck out 12 and Sierra Winner had four hits, including a pair of doubles, as the Raiders took the opening game of their Class 6A bi-district series.

Liberty Hill blasts Seguin 18-6: In the first game of a best-of-three series, Addison Shiffflett had three hits, including a triple and a home run, and added four RBIs while Rylee Slimp had six RBIs. Slimp and Bella Nicholson each hit homers.

Rouse upsets Smithson Valley 2-1: Brooke White's third-inning home run lifted Rouse past favored Smithson Valley in the first game of their series. Blakely Barber struck out eight batters.

A no-hitter for Elgin's Cantrell: Jessica Cantrell pitched a 17-strikeout no-hitter in Elgin's 11-2 win over McCallum. Cantrell has 268 strikeouts on the season. Bianca Galindo had a two-run home run and Emily Summer had three RBIs for Elgin, which advanced to the area round.

East View tops Crockett: East View beat Crockett 14-1 behind Izzy Andana's grand slam and five RBIs. Madison Rose added a two-run homer for the Patriots, who advanced to area.

Smithville advances: In Class 4A, Smithville's Addison Otto pitched a three-inning, run rule-shortened 21-0 shutout of Houston Washington. Otto hit a grand slam, and Claire Kennon added an inside-the-park home run.
